Working with thick fused blocks of glass offers unique opportunities to create a sense of space in the finished piece! This workshop focuses on developing depth of field in a 6” x 6” or 5” x 7” fused glass block that is thirteen layers thick. Students will learn how to strategically place colored imagery across multiple layers to achieve maximum visual impact.

Using a picture or design of their choice as inspiration, students will work with sheet glass, frit, stringers, paint, and more to translate their image into multiple glass layers. On the last day, these layers will be assembled into a thick block.

The entire process will be covered from start to finish, including imagery selection, design tips, and stacking and damming techniques. This will enable participants to create a finished piece directly from the kiln without extensive coldworking!
