3½-day workshop. Tuition $949.00; includes materials and use of tools during class.
Space is limited; tuition must be paid in advance to reserve your space in a class.
Mandalas have been used as a tool for self-reflection and self-exploration through the ages. In this class we will focus on the pattern of an eight-pointed star and learn the methods for creating the glass elements used to create these beautiful designs. Students learn how to form canes from a vitrograph kiln, and how to use the canes both as murine and as design features in the triangular pattern bars we make in class and use to create the patterns within the mandala.
During class we will discuss the symbolism of shapes, layout, numbers, and color and how they impact the design and a sense of balance and beauty the mandala brings. We will also include meditation and Taoist energy practices to help tap into our unconscious thoughts and to the messages the mandalas want to bring to each of us.
Making and cutting canes, creating and slicing triangular pattern bars, design and layout, discussion of firing and finishing, exercises in self-reflection and tapping into our creative energy are all part of this workshop. Each student has the opportunity to complete a 10” round personal Mandala.
