5-day workshop. Tuition $1,295.00; includes materials and use of tools during class. ALL LEVELS WELCOME!
Space is limited; tuition must be paid in advance to reserve your space in a class.
This immersive class invites participants to explore the underwater world through glass, drawing inspiration from the intricate forms and vibrant colors found in coral reefs. Over five days, instruction will focus on powder-sculpting techniques, textural effects, mark-making, controlling spaces, and powder-color layering to bring these marine marvels to life in kiln-formed glass!
Students will also experiment with reverse relief methods, segmented construction, faux sea glass formation, anemone flame working, sagging and slumping methods, and creative use of Bullseye powders to craft unique sea creatures and botanical elements.
Using your own color palette, each participant will create numerous glass components and assemble them into beautifully intriguing, complex sculptures.
All levels are welcome, and the emphasis will be on fostering creativity, technical growth, and a collaborative studio environment!
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nikki O’Neill has been a passionate naturalist since childhood, exploring forests, meadows, and mountain streams around the world. By the late 1970s, with a PhD in biological sciences and a career as a research scientist, she sought new outlets that combined her interests in art and science. After several years of study in general studio arts, her attention turned to glass. She was captivated by how light travels through glass and by the possibilities for discovering art and science in nature. She is constantly developing new work inspired by the evolution, diversity, and origins of life.
